Myofascial and Joint Release

The fascial network refers to the connective tissue of the body that plays a major role in supporting its physical structure. Sheets, bands and ropes of fascia connect different parts of the body together. It is interwoven in muscles and is the material that makes up our tendons and ligaments. Unlike muscle, which has a responsive vascular quality, fascia is more passive and plastic in nature. Myofascial release uses finger tips and elbows to apply slow deep pressure in order to stretch these shortened, dehydrated and adhered connective tissue layers.

Swedish Massage

This technique uses five styles of long, flowing strokes which are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (across the muscle fiber), and vibrations/shaking.  Pressure can vary from very light to very deep, depending upon the client’s needs and wishes. This is the classic relaxation massage that many people have experienced and enjoy.

Deep Tissue Massage

The techniques used in this style of massage are similar to that in Swedish Massage, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper, and more concentrated on areas of tension and pain.  The focus is the realignment of the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.  It is often used for chronically tense and contracted areas, such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.

Muscle Energy Technique

The oasteopathic technique is a gentle, interactive, pain-free method of using the energy of the client’s muscles to lengthen shortened muscles.  Its benefits include relieving pain, fixing joint issues, and improving a person’s range of motion of the spine and pelvis.

Trigger Point Technique

A variety of massage techniques are used to treat specific pressure points in the tissues to encourage muscle relaxation, pain relief, and restoration of normal function.

Seniors Massage

Due to the aging process, seniors face unique challenges when it comes to receiving massage. To accommodate any physical limitations, the standard massage treatment can be modified to provide shorter treatment sessions and to provide the massage in a position that is comfortable for the client (wheel chair, bed, seated, or at home).

Many seniors find that after losing a spouse, massage is particularly comforting. It provides human touch and company, while also providing other benefits that can help combat depression and lethargy.

Sports Injuries

Massage therapy works directly on the muscular, nervous, and circulatory systems to rehabilitate physical injuries and improve health.

Sean is a skilled, caring massage therapist whose work I admire. His is very conscientious and strives to find new and better ways to address his client’s concerns.
